Our Journey
1970 - 2016
Ever since its formation in 1970, Turbosound has had a long history of innovation and leadership in the world of Pro Audio
1970
Early Days
Turbosound was built on Tony Andrews’ vision to redefine live sound—delivering powerful, studio-quality audio with maximum impact, inspired by the energy of early festival culture and a relentless pursuit of innovation.
1973
The Turbo Phase Device that change the Industry
Born at Glastonbury in 1973, Tony Andrews’ "Festival System" replaced distorted sound with clear, high-performance frequency separation. This breakthrough birthed our PA manufacturing and paved the way for the iconic TMS-3 and its 10-inch midrange.
1978
Turbosound Ltd is Born
From its 1978 founding to the 1981 launch of the TMS series, Turbosound redefined live audio. The TMS-3, powered by the patented TurboMid device, proved that modular, three-way systems could deliver unprecedented power and clarity.
1980
A New Beginning
FLASHLIGHT brought arena-sized power to the world's biggest stages. From Pink Floyd in Berlin to legendary tours by The Cure and Oasis, its modular three-way design and "Lemon" HF innovations set the benchmark for clarity, efficiency, and ease of rigging on a massive scale.
1980
Worldwide Acclaim
The influential TMS-3 was so revolutionary it became the most copied system in the industry. Turbosound followed this success with the portable, modular TSE series, eventually launching the TSW-124—the world’s first 24-inch horn-loaded sub-bass.
1982
The Next British Invasion
After the 1984 Grand Ole Opry installation proved its superior performance, Turbosound rapidly conquered the US market. From high-profile tours like Styx to the world’s largest rental companies, this success cemented Turbosound’s status as a global audio powerhouse.
1986
Combining the Elements
Forming the Edge Technology Group in 1986 allowed Turbosound to master the entire signal chain. This synergy between custom drive units and signal management propelled the TSE Series to become the standard choice for major international venues.
1987
he Pretiguous Queen's Awards
The TMS-3’s export success and 1987 Queen’s Award cemented it as the world's premier modular PA. Trusted for historic festivals and global tours, the TMS and TSE series set the standard for low-distortion, high-endurance performance on a massive scale.
1994
The True Star of the Show
FLASHLIGHT’s 1994 award-winning design redefined tour efficiency for giants like Pink Floyd, reducing overhead without compromising audio. A staple of the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage for nearly a decade, its advanced directivity remains a benchmark for precision in large-scale sound reinforcement.
2000
The Polyhorn is Born
Turbosound’s ASPECT system redefined large-format audio through Virtual Point Source (VPS) technology. Debuting at Glastonbury 2005, its unmatched clarity and dispersion control led it to power David Gilmour’s 2006 tour, setting a new standard for detailed, balanced sound.
2002
Floodlight – A Wider Audience
FLOODLIGHT adapted FLASHLIGHT’s signature power for intimate spaces with wider dispersion. Using innovative "axehead" waveguides and custom-engineered drivers, it set a new standard for versatile, high-performance mid-sized sound.
2005
Aspect - A Good Point Well Made
Selected by David Gilmour’s engineer for its smooth, detailed sound, ASPECT redefined touring performance. At major events like the Roskilde Festival, the system’s point-source precision and innovative Dendritic waveguides allowed for massive, clean output with unparalleled acoustic control.
2012
The 3rd Queen's Award
From the Queen’s Award-winning FLEX ARRAY and its groundbreaking Dendritic technology to the stylish IMPACT series for commercial installs, Turbosound continues to bridge the gap between touring power and architectural elegance.
2013
Turbosound's Biggest Install
2013 was a milestone for versatility, spanning the record-breaking Hakkasan installation and the flagship FLASHLINE tour rig. With integrated DSP and proprietary waveguides, Turbosound continues to lead in tailored audio solutions for every scale.
